It’s still going to be “like, SO good”, but US emperor King Donald Trump (KDT) has “decided” to sit back on his Gaza ownership-everything-must-go “plan”, saying he’ll leave it up to the Arabs to take over.
That’s estate agent speak for “everyone is laughing, but I don’t care” after erstwhile Arab allies roundly rejected his plan to ethnically cleanse two million residents from Gaza.
That rejection forced King Donald to make a humiliating climbdown on Friday when he conceded he could not force anyone to accept a few million refugees like he was handing out sweets to children.
Trumpeting whimsy
“I’m not forcing it. I’m just going to sit back and recommend it, and then the US would own the site,” he told Fox News, using the famous Trumpian phraseology that means nothing, but is so loved by his supporters.
Then came the clanger: “Another way to do it is with the people there, but I don’t think it would work. I like my plan.”
Unfortunately, “the people there” do not.
Reasons include the national destabilisation and all-out war with Israel that would inevitably follow.
It’s that last point that probably drew King Donald’s “plan” to a halt. Bullying, bluster and bluff only work in America when you want drastically overhaul a nation and reconfigure its demographics. In the rest of the world, where the pain is felt, Donald is clearly out of his depth and is only starting to realise whimsy and whining only work so far.
It’s a very different world, compared to his first term. King Hussein, Lebanon’s ruler, told King Donald during their White House meeting his plan would lead to “Islamic extremism” and destabilise pro-US governments across Arabia.
From Turkiye, to Jordan and Saudi Arabia, Israel’s famous missile defence shield is dependent on radar relay stations in neighbouring countries to provide live feeds to its missile batteries, giving them vital minutes to prepare for any incoming enemy rockets.
Israel’s Muslim shields
Without them, Israel is naked, exposed – a fact that has possibly been brought to King Donald’ attention lately.
Leaders from Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Egypt, Qatar, Bahrain and the UAE gathered in Riyadh on Friday to discuss an Egyptian proposal ahead of an Arab League meeting in early March to examine Gaza’s rehabilitation.
The UAE was in attendance despite shocking Arabia last week by stating Donald’s plan was the only one on the table and sounded “workable”.
Egypt’s plan proposes building temporary housing for Palestinians inside Gaza until it is rebuilt – some critics have warned it could create a “concentration camp within a concentration camp” – while “technocrats” plan the reconstruction of vital infrastructure, and security is taken over by “Palestinians not affiliated with Hamas”.
An Egyptian official told Middle East Eye planners want to prevent the re-emergence of a “Hezbollah-style” armed force as happened in Lebanon at the end of its civil war.
Hamas has remained tight-lipped on ceding security control, but is already allowing US and Egyptian mercenaries to operate in the Netzarim Corridor. No reports of clashes have emerged since they took over.
But Hamas is still maintaining a daily presence, its armed fighters moving freely throughout Gaza where they are essential for managing crowds.
Pulled by his nose
King Donald says he doesn’t care if Israel resumes the genocide or not. That’s like saying he doesn’t care if Israeli fuhrer Benjamin Netanyahu keeps control of US war and foreign policy (and, therefore, everything else).
Obviously, he cares and obviously it hurts his ego to be pulled around by his nose by someone like Netanyahu who can tear off in any direction on any given day, dragging the US behind like a worn-out warhorse pulling an overloaded ammunition wagon.
