US ‘giving ISIS drones to attack Russia bases in Syria’ – Lavrov

Russia is warning Monday America has supplied its ISIS mercenaries with drones to attack the Russian naval base at Tartus and the Hmimim air base in northern Syria.
The Oracle reports Russia’s Foreign Intelligence Service (FIS) warned US president Joe Biden’s outgoing administration wanted to sew chaos in Arabia to “ensure their long-term dominance of the region”.
But this is “impeded by the Russian military presence on the Mediterranean coast of Syria, which remains an important factor in regional stability, which necessitated assigning ISIS to carry out the mission,” the FIS said.
Russia’s continued presence in Syria is in question after the fall of the Al-Assad government, but Al-Mayadeen reports Monday the leader of Syria’s new regime, Ahmad al-Sharaa, stressed Damascus’s long-standing ties with Moscow during an interview on Al-Arabiya on Sunday.
Al-Sharaa said: “Russia is the second-most-powerful state in the world. It is of great importance; Syria shares strategic interests with Russia.”
Russia’s presence in Syria should not end “in a manner that is inconsistent” with their longstanding, bilateral relationship, he added.
Sergey Lavrov, the Russian foreign minister, told Sputnik Moscow had not been informed of any plans by Syria’s new government to change treaties related to Russia’s military presence.
“It is not only about preserving our bases or strongholds, but also about the conditions of their operation, maintenance and provision, and interaction with the local side. These topics could be the subject of negotiations with the new Syrian leadership,” Lavrov said.
