Palestinian and Egyptian negotiators are signalling a real, Gaza ceasefire deal may be on the table with Israelis signalling willingness to sign a Lebanon-style ceasefire as Donald Trump prepares to take office in the US.
Both sides, however, see Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu as a potential spoiler to the rapprochement, a role he has played gloatingly throughout his genocide.
Dancing a jig
But Al-Akhbar reports even Netanyahu appears for the moment to favour a deal, now that his genocidal “General’s Plan” for Northern Gaza has proceeded smoothly, with nary a whimper of protest from the West’s mainstream media and politicians.
Netanyahu is revelling in his stunning victories. Like Hitler dancing the jig after his Wehrmacht successfully invaded the Sudetenland in the lead up to World War II and his eventual downfall, Netanyahu told the world in a “Mission Accomplished” press conference from the high ground of the Golan, the Heights will be forever Israel.
The Zionists are already implementing plans to try make Israel’s control eternal, bolstering defences and troops at the strategic summit of Mount Hermon and grabbing most of the water resources in Quneitra, Al-Akhbar reports.
Hebrew media say the military is working to prevent the return of displaced Palestinians to northern Gaza after their extermination and siege campaign ends.
Ynet news says the northern third of the Gaza Strip will remain sparsely populated unless a hostage deal changes the picture.
It says the army is preparing “to prevent Gazans from returning to their homes in Jabaliya, Beit Hanoun, and Beit Lahia, which overlook Israeli settlements such as Netiv Ha’esra, Sderot, Mefalsim, and Erez.”
It adds that the most significant element of the Generals’ Plan is about to be realized, “systematic cleansing of large areas in the northern Gaza Strip of the enemy one by one, without returning the Gazans to their homes.”
3-stage truce
Generals and politicians are reportedly divided on whether Tel Aviv should establish permanent military rule in Gaza or not. Recent reports seem to agree a permanent Israeli military and security presence in the strip is likely.
The Cradle reports a new, three-stage truce and exchange proposal being discussed is reportedly in its final stages.
Sources told the Times of Israel, “Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu believes he’ll have more flexibility under Trump to resume fighting after the first phase” of the proposed agreement.
Over 250 Palestinians have been killed across Gaza over the past two days. At least 100,000 people have been forcibly expelled and thousands killed in the north alone in just a few months.
Al-Akhbar says recent talks have centered on increasing the number of prisoners for exchange and the duration of the truce period during the exchange. The recent uptick in operations against Gaza is believed to be intended to pressure Hamas to accept a deal with concessions.
The Zionists are still demanding “freedom of movement” for their killers during the truce. They want to be able to murder civilians at will – like they did again on Sunday when they stormed a school housing civilians in northern Gaza, opening fire with machine guns and killing at least 40 civilians and forcing dozens to flee, Middle East Eye reports.
Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz has also reportedly stated that a deal to exchange captives and reach a temporary truce is close. He insisted any captives deal would not mean an end to the genocide that has destroyed much of Gaza and killed over 45,000 Palestinians – the majority women and children.
About 100 hostages are believed to still be alive.
