Arrest warrants must be issued immediately against Israel’s finance minister Bezalel Smotrich for bemoaning Israel’s inability to starve to death 2million Gazans, Palestine has told the International Criminal Court.
The Palestinian Foreign Ministry says in an appeal to the court, Smotrich’s call is “an explicit admission of adopting and bragging about the policy of genocide.”
His call is a “blatant challenge to the International Court of Justice” which has specifically ruled Israeli leaders must not issue calls inciting genocide, the submission says. It denounces Smotrich’s call describing it as a “flagrant violation of the rules of international law and basic principles of humanity… on protecting civilians and securing their basic humanitarian needs.”
The Israeli Finance Minister declared Monday that starving to death two million people in Gaza was “justified and moral”, but it was not possible because the rest of the world would not allow it.
The Palestinian submission says Smotrich has egged on the collective punishment of the Palestinian population in Gaza and should be arrested and punished.
Flouting a UN Security Council resolution demanding an immediate ceasefire amid blanket condemnation in the UN General Assembly, Israel is facing hardening international isolation as its brutal offensive on Gaza grinds on relentlessly.
Despite being on trial before the International Court of Justice for genocide against Palestinians, Israel has been waging a devastating murder of Gaza’s civilians since October 7.
