Police launch ‘cathunt’ for missing Muslim suspects

Man in prison

Gauteng police are looking for two Muslim suspects arrested for possessing stolen goods after the duo reportedly “turned into cats”, slipped between their cell’s bars and walked to freedom.

A manhunt – or should it be a cathunt? -is under way, police say.

A police report says the two suspects, identified as Mustafa Ali and Omari Mustafa, were among 11 others arrested for holding stolen property on July 16.

But, when police called out their names during a routine roll call in their holding cell, the men had vanished.

Another suspect claimed Ali and Mustafa had made strange owl-like noises, turned into cats and walked out of the holding cells.

The official writer of the police report claimed the man who had told the officers the two men turned into cats told him the same story.

Gauteng police confirmed they’re investigating a charge of escaping from custody.

Colonel Noxolo Kweza added the police officers on duty at the time were also being investigated.

“Police have since arrested one of the escapees.”

He did not say where the man was being held – in a holding cell or at the SPCA.

Anyone with information that can assist police with the investigation is urged to contact their local police or the police toll free number 08600 10111.

The SPCA’s number is 011 907 3590.

Attempts to track down the hunter who shot Sheba the tiger after she escaped last year were to no avail at time of going to press.

This is a developing story.
