He may have a name that sounds like a furniture salesman, but JD Vance – Donald Trump’s vice-president pick going into the elections – would probably more at home selling footwear because he flip-flops so often on issues to please the crowd.
Trump is a case in point – he was once a “never-Trumper”; now he’s an apparent “die-hard back of his new boss”, the Palestine Chronicle reports.
He’s been a staunch critic of US foreign policy, opposing the Iraq War and military aid to Ukraine, but “he transforms into a hawkish Zionist when addressing the topic of Israel”.
After being named as Trump’s running mate, he immediately took to advocating a direct US attack on Iran.
Israel Lobby groups were the top contributors to Vance’s 2022 election campaign for senator. So, he’s known for statements like “we [the US] need to do something with Iran—but not these weak little bombing runs. If you’re going to punch the Iranians, you punch them hard.”
After first opposing Trump, it appears Vance now understands well that Trump’s top campaign financier is Israel’s richest billionaire, Miriam Adelson, and that the pro-Israeli Lobby is backing him to ensure he will be an Israel first candidate, despite his rhetoric about putting the US first.
Interestingly, Vance once compared Trump to Hitler. With the Gaza genocide still in full gear, Hitler comparisons now seem to also seem appropriate to many of Israel’s politicians, so that no longer seems to be contentious for Vance.
And it probably explains why he’s against sending aid to Ukraine because it is a drain of tax-payer dollars, while supporting unconditional aid to Israel every year.
Vance has also said after serving in Iraq he realised that “the promises of the foreign policy establishment of this country were a complete joke”. But now he supports an even more catastrophic war with Iran.
On the Gaza genocide, he has also criticised President Joe Biden for preventing the Israelis from being able to “actually take out Hamas”, while calling on Tel Aviv to finish the war quickly.
The Chronicle notes today “there can be no doubt (if elected) that they will pursue further normalization deals between Arab dictatorships and Israel, while working to destroy the Palestinian cause for Statehood.
“The focus will also be placed upon escalating tensions throughout West Asia, specifically looking to continue the same policy that the Biden administration has pursued of attempting to pit an Israeli-Arab regime alliance against Iran,” it adds.
