Why did “israel” carry out a genocidal massacre in Rafah with the world watching?
Ramzy Baroud, editor of the Palestine Chronicle believes it happened for three reasons:
- South Africa’s case at the International Court of Justice. Baroud says the ICJ “told ‘israel’ that you need to stop your operation immediately. It was Netanyahu. His message was to the ‘israeli’ people, not to the ICJ or even the international community that ‘I am the powerful ‘israeli’ Zionist leader who is going to protect you and I am willing to challenge the ICJ itself and the rest of the world by doing exactly what you want me to do. Not only that, I am willing to kill civilians for it. Which he did;
- The capturing of more ‘israeli’ soldiers in the northern Palestinian town or refugee camp of Jabalia. Imagine, after 232 days of the ‘israeli’ genocide in Gaza, the resistance is so strong that it is capable of killing and arresting 14 ‘israeli’ soldiers in an area that ‘israel’ has declared to have been conquered months ago. For Netanyahu, he had to do something immediately to distract from that in order for him to shield the conversation in ‘israel’ and elsewhere from what happened in Jabalia to what is happening in Rafah. And;
- Peace talks in Qatar are starting to move in the direction of a ceasefire with the cooperation of ‘israeli’ negotiators. “So, it was Netanyahu’s way of preventing the negotiations before they actually happened. Killing this many civilians with the hope that Hamas is going to say ‘I will not engage in any more talks or negotiations about what is going on in Gaza.’”
“This is why Netanyahu has done it. And this is the political and strategic purpose of killing and massacring civilians in the Gaza strip,” Baroud concludes.
