Question
Please verify the authenticity of the Hadith that says if you say Subhanallah, a tree is planted for you in Jannah.
Answer
1. Sayyiduna ‘Abdullah ibn Mas’ud (radiyallahu’anhu) reported that Rasulullah (sallallahu’alayhi wasallam) said:
I met Nabi Ibrahim (‘alaihis salam) when I was taken on Mi’raj (ascension to the heavens) and he told me: ” O Muhammad, convey my salam (greetings) to your Ummah and tell them that Jannah has good soil and sweet water, but it is barren. The plantation of Jannah is (the recital of) Subhanallah, Alhamdulillah, La ilaha illallah and Allahu Akbar.”
(Sunan Tirmidhi, Hadith: 3462. Imam Tirmidhi (rahimahullah) has classified this hadith as sound (hasan)
2. Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (radiyallahu’anhu) reports that Rasulullah (sallallahu’alayhi wasallam) said:
“… say: Subhanallah, Alhamdulillah, La ilaha illallah or Allahu Akbar, one tree will be planted for you in Jannah for each of these.”
(Sunan Ibn Majah, Hadith: 3807)
Declared sound (hasan) by ‘Allamah Mundhiri and Imam Busiri and sahih by Imam Hakim (rahimahumullah) (refer: Targhib, vol.2 pg.424 and Misbahuz Zujajah, Hadith: 1333)
3. A similar sound (hasan) narration is reported by Sayyiduna ‘Abdullah ibn ‘Abbas (radiyallahu’anhuma) in Tabarani. See Targhib, vol.2 pg.425.
